JUST RUN, the award-winning youth fitness program operating through the Big Sur Marathon Foundation, has completed the 2016-17 academic year with its highest totals in all categories since the inception of the program 13 years ago. A total of 20,261 children took part in JUST RUN at their school site either during the school day or in before and/or after school programs. Aimed at students ages 5-12, the majority of children were primarily elementary school aged students. The previous record of students participating was in 2015 with a total of 18,333.
Forty-two Monterey County schools took part in the Big Sur Marathon’s By-the-Bay 3K fun run Saturday morning, April 29, 2017. Nearly than 5,000 participants including students, teachers, parents and other runners ran and walked the 1.8-mile event along scenic Ocean View Blvd. in Pacific Grove.

JUST RUN, the award-winning youth fitness program of the Big Sur Marathon Foundation, has been selected as one of a handful of national programs featured by the New Balance Foundation Billion Mile Race.
The Race is challenging America’s schools to collectively run, jog, and walk one billion miles. Participation by schools is easy and completely free, and by sharing their miles, schools make themselves eligible for exciting grants and prizes.
Seven hundred students at Santa Lucia School in King City, CA, joined their fellow students on the field this week to celebrate the three millionth mile logged by the children in the Big Sur Marathon’s youth fitness program, JUST RUN.

The University of the Pacific in Stockton, CA has partnered with the Big Sur Marathon Foundation to offer its JUST RUN youth fitness program as an accredited UOP graduate level course. The program is one of many course offerings available to teachers in California and other states throughout the nation for professional enrichment and salary advancement.
JUST RUN, the award-winning youth fitness program developed by the Big Sur Marathon Foundation, has hit its highest marks ever. As the 2015 academic school year comes to a close, more than 18,000 children, representing 167 schools in 19 states, have logged over a half million miles.
JUST RUN, the youth fitness program developed by leaders from the Big Sur International Marathon, was named National Youth Program of the Year by Running USA at its recent annual industry conference in New Orleans. "JUST RUN's involvement in the sport of youth running continues to not only inspire thousands of children to live healthy, active lives but provides a wonderful model for other teachers and leaders to develop in their communities,” said Running USA CEO Rich Harshbarger as he presented the award and a $5,000 check in front of 700 industry leaders. “This program provides all the components necessary to create long-lasting, healthy change for children within their communities."
